6HUM1012 Popular Protest, Riot and Reform in Britain, 1760-1848

*This is a workshop module.* Workshops will take a variety of formats, including mini-lectures, detailed primary source analyses, group tasks, and other activities.
Lectures
Lectures will be online, and should be watched BEFORE the workshop.
Workshop tasks
You should write up a report on the workshops each week. I will mark these with informal feedback. You should then submit the two best workshop write-ups as one of the assignments.
Inclusive seminars
We will be developing your research skills and seminar discussion skills throughout the module. We will be using an 'inclusive learning' framework for the workshops = please read the 'seminar behaviours checklist' document attached below. These will be assessed in a seminar discussion in week 12.

ASSIGNMENTS
1. essay = 2500 words (50%) - due Wednesday 10am, 7 January 2015 (week 13).
You should submit online by this date & time.
2 TWO workshop write-ups of 500 words each = 1000 words (25%) - due 4pm, Wednesday 12 November, (week 7).
You should write up a report on the workshop each week. I give informal feedback on the reports. You should then submit the two best workshop write-ups as one of the assignments. Reports should be fully referenced with footnotes, and give an overview of the main arguments of the set reading.
3. seminar discussion and participation (25%) - assessed seminar in week 12
For details and marking criteria click here. The session will be observed by the moderator, and recorded for the external examiner.
Alternative assessment
NB. If you do not want to take part in the assessed discussion, you may submit a written report instead. This MUST be agreed with me in advance by week 9 of the semester. It is due by 4pm, Friday week 12, 19 December.
The written report is 1250 words, and consists of two parts:
1. 750 word discussion of TWO primary sources relating to the topic (material culture of politics in the 18th and 19th centuries).
2. 500 word report on the seminar discussion, highlighting the main questions asked about material culture and the main arguments or conclusions.
You should submit online by this date & time.
