Assignment 1. Seminar write-ups
TWO write-ups (500 words each) of seminar tasks [marked with a * in the weekly seminar preparation] (30% total mark).
Total word limit: up to 1200 words.
Each write-up is due one week after the respective seminar. You should submit your assignment to me on paper/by email at the beginning of the seminar, so I can mark it and give it back to you with feedback.
You are encouraged to use this assignment as an opportunity for formative feedback. You will not, however, be able to submit the same write-up more than once.
Your mark will be calculated as an average of the best two write-ups.
The final deadline is Thursday, 12 November, 12pm.
Task:
Summarise the debate, provide a critical analysis of the reading, and place the reading into a wider historiographical context.
Marking criteria:
As well as the standard History marking criteria for level 5, you should show:
- the ability to condense the main arguments of historians in a concise and precise way
- awareness and understanding of the key topics discussed, and how they link to wider debates in the historiography of eighteenth-century Britain
